2020 International Songwriting Competition Semi-Finalists

Our new single "The Fight", from our upcoming album Under the Leaves, was just named a semi-finalist in the 2020 International Songwriting Competition. The song draws inspiration from the likes of French historian René Girard and Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek, Martin Luther King, Jr., and even Psalm 46, and we're honored to have it recognized! If you haven't heard the song yet, check it out here.

Ryanhood @ The Vinyl District

“...My Uncle Phil got all the wires set up, and began dubbing one song at a time directly from the turntable to the cassette deck. You could hear the tell-tale needle drop, the crackle, and those incredible musical colors that lifted themselves up from the grooves. ‘Dear Prudence’ and ‘I’ve Just Seen a Face’ were on there. So were ‘And Your Bird Can Sing,’ ‘I’m Only Sleeping,’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’ and a few others. . . . For the next year or two, my dad and I drove around listening and re-listening to that tape-from-vinyl, dissecting the songwriting, making up harmonies, and discussing exactly which clues were most convincing that Paul was indeed ‘dead.’”

In preparation for our first ever vinyl release, read the full essay on Cameron's relationship with vinyl at The Vinyl District

Our new album, Under The Leaves, performed under the stars. You can sit with your pod of beloved folks at a 2-top or a 4-top table, tables are far apart, overall capacity is kept to 100 people per show, and it’s outdoors under the spring stars in Tucson. Only 100 tickets are available for each of these special intimate shows, so if this sounds like it might be for you, grab a table right now before they sell out!

Ryanhood Featured in American Songwriter

“'The Fight' tackles the clash between morality and ideology with a brainy intellectualism not often seen in a pop song...Intricate and challenging, Ryan’s acoustic guitarwork creates a steady and solid foundation for Cameron’s lyrics to shine." Read the full article here.

Video: TEDx Tucson "How Bad Things Can Make Us Good People"

Storytelling has become a major part of Ryanhood shows in the past few years, and we frequently get asked for recordings and videos of those storytelling moments from our live shows. But we haven’t had anything solid to point to—until now.

We are so pleased to present our first TED talk, “How bad things can make us good people”!

Recorded live at the 2019 TEDx Tucson [R]evolution Conference, our first time on the red circle wove the songs “I Didn’t Put Anything Into Your Place” and “Second City” with stories of personal heartbreak, large scale disaster, and how we can find hope for our whole culture by choosing to face our own hard places.

Here’s the official TEDx YouTube video description:

Poets from Ernest Hemingway to Kanye West have taught us that we can, over time, become stronger right at the places where we’ve been wounded. But does “stronger” always mean “better”? While many of our greatest heroes were been born of intense suffering, many of our strongest villains were born the same way. What causes some people to pass on their pain on to others in warfare, racism, and abuse, while some seem to transform their pain into great art, compassionate wisdom, and restorative justice?

Join Cameron Hood and Ryan David Green of Tucson, Arizona’s indie-folk duo Ryanhood as they use virtuosity, heart, and humor to explore the gifts of heartbreak, loss, and failure. What does it mean to truly transform pain? And how is it that bad things can make us into good people?
